Comedian Dave Chappelle is facing criticism over hosting “Saturday Night Live” for the third time this weekend.
Despite getting some backlash for previously joking about the transgender community and poking fun at the news cycle, the comedy series released promos previewing Chappelle’s appearance, Thursday.
During the promo video, Chappelle is seen alongside musical guest Black Star and cast member Ego Nwodim.

Throughout the multiple clips, he briefly discussed his Thanksgiving plans and announced this week’s episode will be “so Black, It will be on BET,” then joked, “Just kidding, it’ll be right here on NBC.”

In the final take, Chappelle seemingly addresses the controversy over his hosting duties. After the comedian introduces himself, a confused Nwodim says, “Wait, we’re doing it live?”
Chappelle responds with “of course,” and the “SNL” star then questions, “with you…in this news cycle?”

As he is slated to host the show this weekend, a few “SNL” staff writers were quick to opt-out of the episode due to the controversy, according to The New York Post.

“SNL” writer Celeste Yim, whose pronouns are they/them – featured in their Instagram bio — reportedly posted a message to their social media story amid Chappelle’s scheduled appearance.
“I’m trans and non-binary. Transphobia is murder and it should be condemned,” Yim stated, according to Reddit.

Meanwhile, in the news cycle of “SNL” cast members this season, the show announced its first comedian who identifies as non-binary, Molly Kearney — who has not publicly addressed Chappelle hosting this weekend’s episode.
Reps for Dave Chappelle and “Saturday Night Live” did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s requests for comment.
