Russia to meet UN Security Council on Syria Idlib province

United Nations security council has accepted Russia’s request to meet on Tuesday at 20.30pm IST about the results of the Tehran Summit it held with Iran and Turkey on the fate of Syria’s Idlib province, diplomats said. Syrian forces have been backed by Russia and Iran and are preparing for an all-out military assault on the rebel held province of Syria.

The United Nations has warmed that this can cause a huge humanitarian crises as this a place where three million people live about half of them have already been displaced in these seven years of war. Britain, France and United States fear that if Russia tries to liquidate the major rebel targets it can cause mass civilian casualties not just increase the refugee crisis.

Russia will brief the council members on the results of the Tehran Summit. The three countries (Russia, Iran and Syria) also set up a Astana process which is a negotiating a track to end Syria’s war that has eclipsed Un-led peace process.
