Yemen exposes militia Houthi abuses in Geneva
During its participation in the meetings of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, the Yemeni Coalition for Monitoring Violations launched the general report on the human rights situation in the country in four years, in conjunction with the fourth anniversary of the invasion of the militia Houthi cities of Taiz and the south.
So, Houthi abuses escalate against journalists in Sana’a and Hodeidah

As well as, The coalition announced the deaths and injuries of 35,26 civilians, including women, children and the elderly, between September 21, 2014, and December 31, 2018.
Abuses by the Houthis in Yemen
The Houthi militia topped the list of violations by:
- killing 9 thousand and 16 civilians
- obstructing over 22 thousand
- 187 others, in various Yemeni governorates
The abduction, arrest, and detention of 16,565 civilians, including 368 children, 98 women and 385 elderly. In addition to the enforced disappearance of 3,554, including 64 children.
Sana’a governorate topped the list of cities with:
Violations of enforced disappearance, with 552 enforced disappearances, followed by Hodeidah governorate by 536. While the third argument came with 487 enforced disappearances.
Targeting journalists and politicians
The violations committed by the Houthi militia against journalists, where 601 violations detected, ranging from killing 37 cases to injuries 71.
So, 246 journalists detained and abducted, 44 others were forcibly disappeared, 62 tortured, and 141 property belongings attacked.
Houthi abuses against journalists did not stop there;
The militia referred 10 journalists held for over three years in order to a specialized criminal court to try terrorists in a position widely condemned by
- local humanitarian organizations
- international humanitarian organizations
Aside from journalists, politicians have been the target of Houthi militias. With the Yemeni coalition monitoring the killing of 236 politicians by Houthi fire and wounding 613 others.
As well as, The arrest of 4,242 politicians, the enforced disappearance of 837, the torture of 233 and the assault on the property of 961.
A Yemeni human rights report confirmed that:
The mines planted by the Houthi militia resulted in the deaths of about 12 thousand dead and wounded, including women and children, in various Yemeni governorates.
As well as, The mines of the Houthis have claimed 900 Yemeni citizens and caused injury and disability of over 11 thousand others in various regions and cities of Yemen since 2015.
The Houthi militia has planted over one million mines in various governorates, including:
- anti-tank mines from 2014 to 2018
Eventually, The Houthis use mines in the form of colored rocks and cylinders, toys and building materials and objects. Which have become a threat to the lives of thousands of Yemenis, and danger looming everywhere, especially women and children.
