An 18-year-old teenager has become the first teenager in the U.S. to die in the COVID-19 pandemic, Los Angeles County health officials reported Tuesday.

The minor was also one of three new deaths reported by the department Tuesday. Health officials said the shadowy youth was from Lancaster, California, but not meet the expense of added details, such as whether the young person had underlying health conditions.

“Tragically, one of people who died was a person numb the age of 18, a devastating reminder that COVID-19 infects people of all ages,” said Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer at a press conference.
