Border crisis – A humanitarian sin

Crossing borders has been an ongoing issue and all countries have spent majority of their budgets in securing the path in which migrants, intruders, tourists and others enter their territory. The recent executive order from US president Donald Trump was to have “zero tolerance” policy on all illegal border crossers. There was more than 17% rise in deporting non criminals ever since Donald Trump started running his presidential role. The order was to detain illegally crossing families at the border which was an understandable policy that was made into place but separating kids from their families while their parents were prosecuted and not allowing or providing any contact information on their whereabouts is a desperate and unsustainable policy which fails to address the crisis at hand. The government achieves nothing by being this harsh with these migrants and many celebrities including first lady Melania Trump has stated that it is cruel and that Trump is not doing this on purpose and he hopes that the parties would work together to take a better stance on migrant crisis.

This current situation resonates how Nazi Germany treated slaves at their detention centers. Though the current government is working to ban the family separation policy, border crisis hasn’t been handled well by the Obama administration and the current policy makers as well. Migration occurs due to people facing problems in their own country and crossing borders or migration should be made easier, safer and lawfully instead of detaining them in a n asylum as this doesn’t benefit America and increases the scale of the humanitarian crisis. No matter how many walls are constructed a government can’t fence away its neighbours. There needs to be a peaceful solution that brims in a way to benefit both the countries.

The current stance is a humanitarian sin as infant, toddlers and children are being kept far away from their parents, they aren’t in a state to understand and all these efforts are doing is scarring them for life.
