Her Highness Sheikha Mariam bint Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation (SHF) based in Abu Dhabi, and guides its advancement of vision in the fields of art, culture, heritage, wellness, and early childhood. Her Highness is enthusiastic about developing forums to explore and express this young country’s many stories. SHF creates a capacity for art and design programs such as the Salama bint Hamdan Young Artists Fellowship, the Lest We Forget project, and the Venice Biennale Pavilion of the UAE. She also vigorously promotes the creation of ethical leadership.

SHF is the Rhodes Scholarship benefactor for the UAE, and Sheikha Mariam is co-chair of the NYU-Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Scholars Program. She holds the position of an Honorary Chair of the UAE Special Olympics besides her role at the Foundation. She also oversees other projects, such as the UAE National Day Celebrations and The Founder’s Memorial in Abu Dhabi. Her Highness holds a degree in Family Science and an MBA from Zayed University and completed the Harvard Business School Executive Leadership Development Program.

As previous generations have learned. The traditions of Bedouin culture provide a sound basis for the creation of communities that have effects, Sheikha Mariam said.
“The majlis ‘ shared values. The wisdom and lessons imparted by storytelling, ingenuity, imagination and the survival spirit of Bedouin. They all provide a blueprint for a prosperous future,” she said.
“Leaders lead best when they inspire their people, when they lift everyone up. It’s not about taking responsibility for each other. That’s how Bedouins lived, that’s how societies grow. That’s what we’re teaching our kids today.”
